Welcome the Moog

Leave a comment

Just back from NYC with a nice Moog Guitar. I know it is a little geek, but that is quite an unusual instrument, need to have it tuned (action is not that great) but I am already having fun and looking forward to put it to work. In the  meanwhile I just update to the latest version of Amplitube … the Custom Shop is Awesome!!! Couldn’t stop messing around with the orange amplifiers and the new stomps. Definitely one of the best software for guitarists!

How to get it more complicated

More is better than less even when less is more

More is better than less even when less is more

And now I am getting my workflow a little more complicated. I started with just using Logic for my production and … I ma a lazy boy … So i actually never made more versions and marked all the different stages of production. As I was composing I was also already putting in place some sub mix and aux stems for FX. Sometimes I was also putting in there some Mastering plugin … Yes … I am pretty bad …

Nature teaches us the effect of rushing things, I know, but … cannot help it.

On the other side I am really a geek, few weeks ago in ACM I just spent the afternoon playing 5 Macs in synch, just for fun.
So Mark introduced me to Ableton Live … cool stuff, even if I am not a DJ I can see how brilliant the tool is, a different perspective from Logic and using them together can really deliver interesting results! So after school …. got an Ableton Live8 and AKAI APC40, the goal is to use Ableton as an instrument for Logic. Not using Rewire but going through Soundflower and loopback stems in the Liquid56.

The way Ableton delivers midi effects and instrument layering is just brilliant! So I just use Ableton in the Session mode and play it as an instrument.

Still this is not solving my impatience problem …. and that where Pro Tools comes ..

Preparing pre master tracks

On April 21st I will attend a mastering session at Abbey Road Studios with my MusicMate Mark Midwinter. We are going to master just a portion (small portion) of my current project. At the moment I just finished a first version of the mix for my track Stream. Quite a lot of fun, the vocals there are produced by Chad Jackson, our mentor/teacher/ruler at ACM Guildford.

My cousin is coming over to help me get some more cool guitar licks on my tracks and to start some new one, the goal is a full album out on iTunes before the end of 2011.

The most exciting thing is that the master will be done by Adam Nunn, that man master OK Computer by Radiohead, on of the best album I have ever heard so far, a musical and technical masterpiece and inspiration to me.

The class I am attending at ACM in Guilford is quite fun and I am learning a lot on Music Production and Mixing. Got back on the composition theory as well. New Gadgets are making life even more fun. I am truly enjoying the world of software instruments and re-amp. Just posting a picture of my latest setup at home … not quite there yet … but the road is quite fun. The goal is to release an album by June mastered at Abbey Road studios. Let’s see. In the meanwhile please check my profile on ReverbNation and SoundCloud.

See you next year!!

Going to the functional side of the world

Just to begin ..

let (!) n =
   let rec fact x acc =
      match x with
         | 0 -> 1 * acc
         | _ -> fact (x-1) (x*acc)
   fact n 1

On the 7th of July I gave a talk to introduce F# to the Canary Wharf .NET User Group. It was at the same time of the match Germany vs Spain and, with my great surprise, people remained for the talk! Most of them remained till the end which was …. Only 3 hours later, I am really sorry about it but instead of the 1 hour the talk went really long.

I have to say that on my side it was really enjoyable since I felt that we were actually having more sort of a workshop rather then a lecture.

Today everything is getting functional, lambda syntax is all over.. Even C++ got the “lambda thing” , why all this buzz around one of the oldest approach in programming technique and paradigm?

Technology and innovation in the game industry

I know this post will sound like a frustration driven revenge but… Wait a minute, yes it is indeed!
I had a dream, working in the game industry, it was really hard to get into it but I made it. every time I had interviews I was really surprised by the amount of skills they ask people to have, get into NASA or Cern will be easier with a PhD!

Today my super Dude Marlon the Sexy asked me if I have a blog … I did in the past… so I thought it would have been a good time to restart!

To be honest .. is the fact that I have an iPad that makes me willing to be a little bit more creative and a little bit more PC
